For the Participants

Celebrations at MOR are intended to honor and enrich
the lives of those who participate.  To see some events
celebrated by MOR members, check out our
MOR
calendar.  We include celebrations of relationships,
anniversaries, goals, accomplishments, and natural
events.

"Celebrating with Meaning" involves an understanding of
why we celebrate.  Joyous events can and should be
directed by clear understanding of what is important to
us.   This is the sound motivation for celebration.
Activities
Focusing on What Matters

Many ceremonies and festivals in traditional culture
already focus on what counts.  They often do this through
personification of ideals, the treatment of our cultural
legacy in a spiritualist manner, or the veneration of
metaphorical events as if they were real.  When this
happens, sometimes people begin to treat these mental
projections as real things, often leading to the disdain of
the tangible things upon which these projections draw
their significance.  At MOR, we bypass these projections
and focus directly on celebrating the significant aspects
of our legacy, or lives, or relationships, or goals, and our
world.
Concepts
MOR Community

The MOR community is a great place to share in the
celebration of life transitions, relationships,
accomplishments, and special events.  MOR people know
that sharing these things adds a richness to our
community and joy to our lives.  When someone passes
away, sharing with a formal event can also be a way of
sharing the emotional burden of loss and memorializing
the things we have appreciated about our loved ones.
MOR encourages members to share these more difficult
moments as a way of healing and growing.
Thanks Without Worship

Celebrating the things that make life meaningful,
honoring those whom we rely upon, encouraging those
we support, and thanking those who have helped us are
all a big part of the shared events of MOR.  This thankful
aspect of celebration nurtures a life of humility and
personal responsibility as we reflect on the
interdependent nature of human existence.  There is no
need to hold up any object, person, or mental projection
above critical scrutiny, no need to hold up some things as
artificially special to the unnecessary diminishment of
others.  To do so would be to turn off our own reasoned
judgment, the very method we use to ensure we are
focusing on the important things.  Celebration need not
be the forbearance of reason, but is best appreciated as
the natural result of rational living.  Only when we can
apply critical judgment to the things we appreciate, can
we begin to understand and fully enjoy their significance
in our lives.  That is why worship is not a part of any MOR
activities.
